Here are some images to remind you of the mud on today's walk.

Burton Joyce, 24th January 2016

Today's walk ...

... took us up the Trent from Stoke Lane near Burton Joyce Station, past the Ferry Boat Inn ...

... to Stoke Lock...

... along the river ...
...   to the Radcliffe-Netherfield railway bridge.

We then popped up to the Netherfield Lagoons Nature Reserve ...
..... to view the bird life (mainly cormorants) ...

... before skirting the fringes of Nethefield into Gedling and up to the hills between Gedling and Lambley for lunch.
Lunch at Gedling Wood - Phil describes his recent high speed crash
Then it was back down Lambley Lane and the impressive Crock Dumble ...
... to Burton Joyce, famous for what, I forget ...
William Booth the founder of The Salvation Army was born in 1829 - but not in Burton Joyce!
... and then alongside Crock Dumble to the Trent.
Several people asked my why I thought this was the best bit of the walk - silly question!

Linacre Reservoirs, 10th January 2016

This walk ...
... (8 miles and 400m climbing) was described by our leader  Sue as Edges and Ales but we were all (nine of us) too busy concentrating on keeping our feet to contemplate visiting the advertised real ale houses in the local villages.  The route explored the undulating countryside northwest of Chesterfield and the several river valleys which drain the moors on the eastern edge of the National Park.  Here are some images, some from Steve.

Kirton, 3rd January 2016

Here is a message from Malcolm who did his very best in difficult circumstances.  Note how much he was shivering when he took the photograph at the start!

"A very wet and soggy walk today with a consistant heavy downpour from start to finish.  Here is the route as planned ...

... but because of heavy rain we finished having to deviate from this and use the road back from the mill field to Kirton to avoid heavily mudded and flooded fields.  Thirteen ramblers started and thirteen drowned ramblers finished.  Here are a few shots I was able to get but had to give up half-way otherwise the wet would have wrecked the camera."

The start in Kirton
Laxton Church
